Baracuda Glass

The Barracuda tube collection

One of our local alberta glass blowers we have been dealing with Chris for a number of years, and even though he is out of Calgary we still like him. Baracuda glass has some very nice art peices, and now each bong has a unique number etched on them. From sandblasting to electroforming Baracuda is an inovator in the Canadian glass scene and well worth the investment for your glass collection
His story goes like this:
It began in 2004 when he quit his stereo job and wanted to make pipes out of wood and stuff. Soon he found glass and lampworking was the hardest thing he ever tried, but he was sold on the idea. He made a living selling beads, pendants, bottles vases and more at festivals with his partner Jodi, finally in 06 he got good enough to make the leap to selling to local shops. Now he has his own shop, where he works, rents space and teaches classes. He has developed a solid line of pieces , where his goal is to make affordable pipes better. To get a handle on what he is thinkin here is what he looks for in a Barracuda pipe
No flat spots
Bic Stand
Gotta be able to see into the bowl
Big Chokes
Staged ash-catcher/deflector technology

Now a quick little interview to get handle on Chris

If you could blow with anyone in History, who would it be and why? (I.e., Jesus, Joan of Arc, Einstein etc)
Leonardo da Vinci. He combined science with art. I bet we could come up with some thing revolutionary.
Why did you start blowing glass and what inspired you?
About 2003? I had just quit my sales job, and my high school sweetheart reappeared in my life. She had just taken several glass classes and needed a place to work . . . it kind of found me.
What is you favorite color to blow with?
Amazon bronze. It’s really earthy and can produce anything from nasty & gross, to the most beautiful oil slick sunset
How did you come to be hooked up with Shell Shock?
I went and found the dopeist head shop in town and sed I only wanted to deal with them.
Do you have any pets?
ya! My 95lb buddy Oscar! He’s a boxer. And his girl; olive, a bug (Boston terrier/pug). She’s ridiculous.
How long have you been in business?
I been selling glass for 6-7 years now? But i've always meant bizzness
What sets you apart from other blowers?
Hundreds of kilometers
When you got the munchies, what is your favorite snack
popcorn w/ Parmesan
What current artist would you like to make a collab with?
Jon kostuk from Grand Prairie or some of the dudes on the coast
If you could miniaturize any animal real or fictional and make it your pet, what would it be and what is its size?
I’d get a pet t-rex just big enough that he/she couldn’t eat me. Probably 95lbs or so.
